UPSEE is a State level Entrance exam for degree level engineering institutions and other professional colleges. The examination duties and responsibilities have been assigned to Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University Uttar Pradesh, The Govt. of Uttar Pradesh, Technical Education Department, has consented for the constitution of Central Admission Board (CAB) under the Chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow to supervise and control the State Entrance Examination herein after referred as UPSEE-2018 being conducted by Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University Uttar Pradesh. The CAB has absolute rights for conducting of UPSEE-2018, and to decide about modalities of admissions and allotment of seats. The jurisdiction of CAB extends to colleges / institutes affiliated to AKTU, Lucknow.
UPTU/UPSEE was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It is also known as AKTU (Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University). The university has been sub-divided into five zones with 150-160 colleges in each zone.
The total number of affiliated colleges under UPTU/UPSEE exam was 49 in the year 2000 which has now gone up to 587.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU)(formerly UPTU) was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, vide Act Amendment No. 1156(2) LXXIX-V-1-15-1(Ka), 24-2015 dated Sept 9, 2015 Uttar Pradesh Adhiniyam Sankhya 23 of 2000. Under the University Act, 'Technical Education' includes programmes of education, research and training in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts & Crafts and such other programmes and areas that the central Government may in consultation with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) by notification in Gazette declare.
AKTU is one of the largest technical universities in India but also perhaps in Asia.
